Liberal Democrats - Freedom of the individual underpinned by a safety net for the vulnerable

Knutsford Liberal Democrats

The Lib Dem candidate at the Nether Knutsford by election in September 2004 Paul Moss promised to follow up constituents concerns with the duly elected Councillors Mrs Vivien Davis & Mrs Pat Green.

Several constituents highlighted the poor state of Tabley Graveyard

poor state of Tabley Graveyard
Six Months later nothing has changed to the disgust of many residents.

Due to local Conservatives inaction - Knutsford Liberal Democrat Chair Paul Moss wrote to the local Conservative MP George Osborne Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer re the terrible state of Tabley Cemetery on 22nd June 2005.

Mr Osborne duly replied on 29th June 2005

" I have spoken today to cllr Walter Wright about Tabley Cemetery. As the cemetery is in Cllr Wright"s ward, he will make a personal visit to inspect the site and will then make representations to the Leisure services at Macclesfield Borough Council. He was not aware that the area was in a bad state"

On 12th July George Osborne MP wrote ;

"Further to my letter of 29th June, I have again spoken to Cllr Walter Wright who has been to visit Knutsford Cemetery at Tabley. He tells me that gravestones have been laid on the ground because they are considered unsafe. There is a regular mowing routine and he feels that the majority of the site is acceptable."

We disagree the poor state of the graveyard was the subject of letters to the local paper ( Knutsford Guardian ) around the time of Fathers day and this was indeed pointed out to Tattons MP at the time of our correspondence.

If You agree with local Lib Dems and not Cllr Walter Wright that improvements are required around the WC and general landscape. Tell Him Direct on : 01565 830884 g.wright@macclesfield.gov.uk

vandalised benches

Liberal Democrats are campaigning for new benches on the Heath to replace the vandalised ones as displayed.

Liberal Democrats will always campaign for improved local amenities that have sadly been neglected by the local Conservative controlled Town, Borough & County Councils.

dedicated cycle stands

Local Liberal Democrat activist Arthur Sancto has successfully fought for dedicated cycle stands (after 5 years of campaigning) - similar to the one photographed - to be placed in Knutsford( 2005/06 financial year ) to encourage cyclists.

council are to instal dog bins

Tackling Knutsford's dog fouling problems

With growing concern about the spread of toxocara canis, there has been pressure applied by the local Liberal Democrat team to deal with the dog fowling problem in Knutsford. Now the council are to install dog bins - like this one.

Well after lobbying & being a nuisance to the Town Councilors, Borough Councillors, County Councillor & the local MP .A New Dog Bin was finally installed on the Heath earlier this summer.

Warren Avenue Roundabout

Campaigning in the Nether By election Sept 2004 Local residents on Warren Avenue expressed their concerns that their roundabout was neglected by the local Conservative Controlled Councils. Media Coverage in the local paper Knutsford Guardian followed after it was highlighted by your local Lib Dem team; contrasting Warren Avenues roundabout with the one directly opposite the Conservative offices in Knutsford.

Local Conservative Borough Councillors put the onus on Conservative County Councillors (as reported Knutsford Guardian) to resolve the issue of improving the roundabout - 0mmitting to mention that if flowers/greenery & not setts were to be installed it would have been a Borough not County issue.

Setts became the solution to improving the roundabout but getting action by Councillors/ Council officers is a different story.

The Saga eventually concluded after representations were made to the Chief Executive of the local council & the Setts were eventually installed in early September 2005. ONE YEAR LATER !!!

Rotten Roads - 'Tory Council's cuts will make them worse' - says your LibDem Team.

" Barbara Austin often receives complaints from local residents about the state of local roads - potholes in the road surface, uneven payments, and so on.

" Now Barbara Austin is concerned to hear that the Conservative controlled County Council has cut a net £1.5MILLION of road repairs spending from the local budget for this year"

"There's been much in the papers and on TV recently about claims of hidden cuts if the Tories became the Government," says Barbara. "But here in Cheshire they don't make any attempt to hide their cuts in public services."

It doesn't always have to be this way. After all at one time Knutsford returned a Liberal Member of Parliament.

Crime-Fighting Blow as Police Move to Office Duties

Cheshire Police Authority are suffering from a lack of cash and will be having to reduce by 50 posts the number of civilian staff employed by the Police around the County. The unfortunate result of this is that a significant number of Police Officers - 21 - are likely to be taken off uniformed duties and put inside the Police Stations to do the paperwork instead.

"This is a big blow to the capacity of our Police Force in the fight against crime and anti-social behaviour," says Cllr Austin.

Barbara fights to protect Knutsford's heritage.

"Those of us who care about Knutsford's traditions must fight even harder."
